PLUZ rules for this area
- Camping gear must be portable and temporary. Any structure or improvement to the land needs prior approval from Alberta Environment and Protected Areas.
- Fires only for cooking or warmth, in existing fire pits or portable fire receptacles, never during a fire ban, never unattended, and out until cold to the touch.
- Camp at least 30 m from lakes and streams.
- 14 days max in one spot, then move at least 1 km for 72 hours.
- Toilet at least 70 m from water, in a hole at least 15 cm deep.
Adapted for pick 2
Your shelter and stove design is unchanged. Steps marked pick 2 were rewritten for this site; every other step is as written.
- Directions are front, back, left and right, as you stand in front of the shelter looking at it. The front faces downhill. At pick 2 the slope falls about north-east (from 30 m terrain data, so check on the ground).
- Water: a creek instead of a lake, with the shelter at least 30 m from it.
- Materials: clay from the till, sand from creek bars, stones from dry ground with no limestone, and a scraped mixing patch instead of a rock ledge.
- Slope: about 8° around the pick, so look for a flatter shelf.
Still yours to decide: the design fells poles and sets posts, which in a PLUZ counts as a structure needing approval, and it takes longer to build than the 14-day stay limit.
